Emergency landing Transavia Flight 5068 during heavy storm at Schiphol Airport (EHAM)
In spite of the heavy storm conditions in the Netherlands yesterday, Transavia flight number 5068 departed Girona Airport – Spain, heading for Rotterdam Airport. Due to position of the ILS at Rotterdam, 240 degrees, with wind directions at 320 degrees at maximum windforce, the flight was redirected for Schiphol ILS 270. With crosswinds of 50 knots, while the maximum tolerated cross wind for the Boeing 737 is 33 knots, the Transavia flight had to make a high speed emergency landing at Schiphol. With less than 30 minutes fuel left, this was about the last chance for a succesfull landing.
We appreciate the video made by one of the spotters at Schiphol.
